South Africa vs Francophonie soccer tournament

As part of the Festival de la Francophonie taking place in Pretoria this month, the Embassy of France in South Africa hosted a Francophonie VS South Africa soccer tournament.

The event was opened by the Ambassador of France to South Africa, H.E. Christophe Farnaud, and former South African professional soccer player and SuperSport host Mark Fish with a special appearance of Miss Mamelodi Sundowns Sharon-Rose Khumalo.

Not only did the tournament celebrate La Francophonie, but it also promoted Paris’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Six teams of six players each took part in the tournament:
•    France
•    Francophonie
•    The South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation
•    University of Pretoria
•    Urban 5occer
•    Mamelodi Sundowns Academy

Overall winner: University of Pretoria
Runner-up: Mamelodi Sundowns Academy
Third place: Team France
Best player: University of Pretoria goal-keeper
Trophy for fair play: Mamelodi Sundowns Academy
