ITEC Day of India
25 February 2017
The High Commissioner of India, Mrs. Ruchi Ghanashyam hosted a reception in Pretoria to commemorate ‘ITEC Day 2016-17’.
In her welcoming remarks High Commissioner Ruchi Ghanashyam explained that ITEC Day is celebrated every year to facilitate scholars who have participated in the fully-funded training programmes offered each year by the Indian Government to about 160 countries including South Africa.
ITEC is the Indian Technical Economic Cooperation program which began in 1964 and it is considered to be an essential function of an integrated and imaginative foreign policy.
The program has since been expanded in both the geographical spread and sectoral coverage and is open to the public and private sector.
Those interested in the wide range of courses are encouraged to apply at the High Commission of India.
The reception for the alumni of the South African chapter included accounts of previous participants and their experience of ITEC. Cultural performances entertained the guests and they were treated to the culinary delights of Indian cuisine.
