Fidel Castro at 90

The Embassy of Cuba in Pretoria, South Africa inaugurated the exhibition “Fidel Castro at 90: rarely known photos of the Cuban Leader” at Freedom Park in Pretoria.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations on the 90th anniversary of Commander Fidel Castro, promoted by the Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) in collaboration with the ANC, the SACP, COSATU and South African professionals trained in Cuba.

The exhibition is made of 90 photographs of the Cuban leader, selected by the news agency Prensa Latina from its archives of over 50 years of photographs.

In his opening address, the Ambassador of Cuba Carlos Fernandez de Cossio highlighted Fidel Castro’s leadership role in the commitment to international solidarity by the Cuban nation, his capacity to mobilize, motivate and inspire the people of Cuba with the idea that Cubans should be ready to endure for others the sacrifices endured at home in the quest for liberation and justice. He also referred to the Cuban leader’s limitless commitment in the pursuit of justice and his faith in the possibility of a better world.

From Freedom Park the exhibition will move to Soweto in Johannesburg.
