China supports Africa’s self-development

The 2nd Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation held with focus on Municipal Capacity Building, Industrial Cooperation and Inclusive Development

The 2nd Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation was held in Beijing on November 10th. China’s top diplomat State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the forum and gave a key-note speech. Representatives from local governments of 26 African countries and 24 Chinese provinces also joined the forum.

Local government cooperation plays an important role in promoting China-Africa relations. State Councilor Yang lauded the important role of the local cooperation in country-to-country relations, and the good momentum in exchanges and cooperation at local level between China and Africa.

He spoke highly of the growing cooperation and exchanges between China-Africa local governments in recent years, since the first Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation in 2012, which have added new dimensions to China-Africa relations and remarkably boosted bilateral cooperation. The Chinese side will continue to encourage the two sides to build more sister cities, share experience and enhance exchanges in infrastructure building, trade, investment, agriculture, etc. so as to attain inclusive development.

The development strategy of China and Africa are highly complementary. The State Councilor pointed out especially that China will adhere to the path of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development in implementing the following Five-Year Plan set during the Fifth Plenary Session of 18th CPC Central Committee, while African countries are endeavoring to achieve the First Ten Year plan for the implementation of “Agenda 2063” with the acceleration of industrialization and realization of sustainable development as the primary goal. Both goals are highly complementary and present fresh opportunities and broad prospects for China-Africa cooperation. This forum will inject new impetus into the future development of China-Africa ties, and send a strong signal to the world that China and Africa will follow the path of peaceful development by joining hands together.

China will further support Africa’s self-development. The State Councilor emphasized that China stands ready to share development experience with Africa, offer more concessional loans, strengthen technology transfer and increase scholarships, which will greatly boost China-Africa exchanges and cooperation.

During the discussions, delegates expected that energy and resources, infrastructure building and agricultural and marine cooperation will become three major areas pushing forward China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.

Established in 2012, the Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation is a sub-forum within the framework of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation with the aim to push forward pragmatic cooperation at local level.
