Mzanzi libraries on-line pilot project impacts communities

30 October 2015

In March 2014 a R32 million grant was received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Global Libraries Fund to run a two year pilot project to strengthen libraries through new technologies and training in ICT.

On 30 October 2015 the National Library of South Africa hosted the 27 libraries that were part of the pilot project and celebrated their success and their contribution to the lives of the communities they served.

The 27 libraries are from all nine provinces of South Africa and received ICT equipment to the value of R470,000. These include 20 desktops; multi-purpose printer, document scanner and copier; software; 10 tablets; 10 e-Readers; gaming room set-up including X box console kits, play stations and gaming headsets.
