Thank you for your kind presence in this commemoration of the 205th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico!

This is also an opportunity for celebrating the friendship and cooperation between Mexico and South Africa and our bright shared future!

Today, Mexico and South Africa are working together to position our bilateral relations in a higher level of strategic priority, in accordance to their true potential, and as peace-loving countries committed to a more equitable and sustainable development in our respective regions and at global scale.

As part of these efforts, we are looking forward to high-level interactions at the United Nations General Assembly this September and at the G20 Leaders Summit this November. We are also having the opportunity of welcoming in Mexico the visits of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister of Social Development this October, and of the Minister of Science and Technology this November. Many other important encounters here and in Mexico are in preparation.

We are working on all fronts, enhancing our political dialogue, our bilateral legal framework, our economic links, our cultural exchanges and our cooperation for development. Your presence here today, honorable Deputy Minister, is the most clear testimony of the priority that both our governments attach to the strengthening of our relationship, as it is so the fact that the Chief of the South African National Defence Force is today participating as a guest of honor in the National Day celebrations that are taking place in Mexico.

Our Presidents are leading this process, providing full political impetus to the consolidation of our friendship and cooperation.

Dear friends and guests, the team of the Mexican Embassy, my family and myself are very grateful to all of you for your continuous support and encouragement in these endeavors. We are looking forward to continue working together with you for the benefit of the relationship between the Governments and peoples of Mexico and South Africa, two beautiful nations rich in history and natural and cultural diversity. It is with this commitment that I wish to invite all of you to raise your glass and toast to the 205th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico, for the friendship and cooperation between Mexico and South Africa, as well as in honor of our Heads of State, President Enrique Peña Nieto and President Jacob Zuma.

Salud and many thanks!
