ABCSA – A Kiwi view of African Opportunity
High Commissioner Richard Mann of New Zealand to South Africa was the guest speaker at the Members function of the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa). His remarks focussed on New Zealand’s perspective on Africa.
A career diplomat Mann most recently held the post of Acting Director, Partnerships, Humanitarian and Disaster Manager, International Development Group at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).He has also served as Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and Chile.
The High Commissioner is also accredited to Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mauritius, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania.
As economic diplomacy takes centre stage trade and investment are key factors for relations and interactions between countries. The role of diplomats and their ability to negotiate facilitate and manage agreements and cooperation in bi-lateral trade has become vital.
The ABCSA has hosted several speakers and has planned to host other events and presentations that will allow its members a unique insight into the trade, investment and tourism environment in Africa.
Procurement processes, up-skilling and knowledge transfer, transparency, mining, job creation and foreign investment are some of the issues which the chamber will tackle in its interactions.
