On 15 June 2011, Mr Bernd Lange, a Member of European Parliament (MEP)’s Delegation for Relations with South Africa, organized an exhibition marking South Africa’s history from 1950 to 2010 in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the 16 June 1976 uprising.
The exhibition documents 60 years of South African photography depicting the history of the country and the development of photography as a creative art medium. It depicts a journey into a country of change, political realignment, freedom and everyday life in South Africa during Apartheid - life in struggle, and in freedom. It provides a profound insight into the social, political, cultural and economic development of South Africa.
Speakers on the occasion were Bernard Lange, MEP, Dr Anil Sooklal, South African Ambassador, Michael Cashman, MEP, Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with South Africa, Sam Nzima, Photographer, and Denis Goldberg, Anti-Apartheid Campaigner.
