Azerbaijan - Land of Fire

Classical music from Azerbaijan performed by the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg celebrated the milestones of the 90th Anniversary of Nakhchivan Autonomic Republic of Azerbaijan and 20 years of Democracy in South Africa.
In his remarks H.E. Mr Elkhan Polukhov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to South Africa said that relations between the two countries have grown stronger through numerous bilateral visits, student exchanges, concerts, exhibitions and sport and charity events.
“From Gabala to Johannesburg: Land of Fire - The Music Knows No Boundaries" was a two day concert introducing South African audiences to classical music which has deep cultural roots. Its unique sound comes from the land where Oriental and Western civilisations meet.

Speaking about South African - Azerbaijani relations Ambassador Polukhov said "Music has no boundaries, and our friendship has no limits."
The concert was conducted by - Yalchin Adigezalov of The Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra while Cellist - Aleksey Miltykh and Pianist- Saida Tagi-Zadeh performed solos in honour of the celebrations.

Present at the event were students who travelled to Azerbaijan sponsored by the government on the ‘Get to know Azerbaijan’ program which has seen several students visit the country and produce a travelogue, South Africa to Azerbaijan, sharing photographs and relating stories of their experiences.
