Czech donation to Tshegofatsong school
On 31 October 2014 an official hand-over of the small local development project of the Embassy of the Czech Republic took place in a special school Tshegofatsong in Mamelodi. In 2014, the school relied on Czech official development aid to acquire sewing machines and various material to be used in work therapy and training of the learners in woodwork, beadwork and sewing skills.
Speaking at the hand-over Ambassador Blanka Fajkusova said that the Tshegofatsong Special School has developed since their first visit in 2012.
Part of the finances was also used to make adjustments in a container, provided by a Czech company, which is going to serve as a sheltered workshop for the graduates of the school, who have not found employment. Working in the sheltered workshop will help them to maintain the skills acquired and also get some income. The sum provided from the Czech official development funds was about 39 thousand ZAR.
At the occasion of the hand-over, the Embassy of the Czech Republic gave the school several DVDs with the popular Little Mole cartoons and a 2015 calendar with the same personage.
"We do come often to Tshegofatsong and I think I can say that we became true friends. In addition to the development projects I mentioned we engaged in Nelson Mandela Day activities and assisted in the preparation of the school garden. I am happy that our efforts literally start bearing fruits. Or I should rather say vegetables. In June we organized screening of short cartoon stories about a Little Mole. We were convinced that the children in Tshegofatsong would like him as we, the Czechs, do. And it proved to be true. Not only are they entertaining, the stories are also educative. I promised that we would offer you the DVDs for further use by the school and I am very proud to present them to you now. And also a beautiful Little Mole calendar," said Ambassador Fajkukova.
As a special thank you for the co-operation, a small gift was prepared for the School Principal Mrs. Zanele Mkhize, who is retiring from her position.
