On October 26, Beijing time, Dr. Siyabonga Cwele, Ambassador of South Africa to China, was invited to attend the 25th China International Mining Congress held in Tianjin. With the theme of "Innovation-driven, Promoting the High-quality Development of Mining", the conference was hosted by the China Mining Association and jointly guided by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People's Republic of China and the Tianjin Municipal People's Government.

In addition to attending the opening ceremony of the Expo, Ambassador Cwele was also invited to attend the Mining Ministers' Forum and participate in the discussion and speech at the China-Africa Mining Cooperation Forum. "South Africa is China's second largest investment destination in the field of mineral investment in Africa. South Africa is in the process of developing a comprehensive strategy for the development of critical minerals, reflecting South Africa's determination to develop the potential of its mineral resources. This strategy will not only guide South Africa in the development and sustainable management of critical minerals, but will also facilitate further cooperation with China. It is a platform to attract more Chinese investment in the important resource areas of exploration, mining and beneficiation. By cooperating in the extraction and value-added of critical minerals, we hope to strengthen our economic relationship with China and further consolidate the partnership between our two countries."

The main factor driving the mining cooperation between South Africa and China is the continuous focus on building a mutually beneficial and win-win relationship. Under the African Mining Vision, the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) mechanism, South Africa will continue to promote responsible mining practices, technology transfer and beneficiation investments to develop its mineral resources in a broadly beneficial way, improve people's livelihoods and support local industries.
During the mining conference and exhibition, Ambassador Cwele also held meetings with a number of mining companies such as the General Administration of Metallurgical Geology of China, China Gold Group Corporation, and Anglo American Resources.
