Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC crowned the champs of the ABC Motsepe League National playoffs

Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC beat Pretoria Callies during the finals of the ABC Motsepe League National playoffs held on the 14 November 2020 at the Vaal University of Technology in Gauteng. They were crowned the champions of the tournament and the Mayor of Mbizana Cllr TD Mafumbatha was present to witness this historic moment. Present were also the founder and Chairman of the club Nathi Mqokiyana, George Gusha and Clive Noconjo from Mbizana Municipality and Sikelela Mtangayi from SAFA Alfred Nzo region who is also the organiser of the Nkosi Ntsikayezwe Sigcau Soccer Tournament.

Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC who come from Mbizana, Alfred Nzo region in the Mpondo Kingdom, Eastern Cape Province are the ABC Motsepe League Eastern Cape provincial champions. The ABC Motsepe provincial winners from all nine provinces played against each other for ABC Motsepe League National play offs and for the two positions in the Glad Africa championship (National First Division) 2020/21. The winners would also walk away with R1 million whilst second runners up with R500 000.

Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC played various friendly games in preparation for the big tournament. They beat Jomo cosmos 3-1 on 30 October and lost 2-1 against Pretoria Callies on 31 October.

Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC and Pretoria Callies made it to the Semi finals which saw them promoted to being the finalists of the Glad African Championship. To qualify for the semi-finals Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC beat Umvoti FC 4-3 whilst Pretoria Callies beat Mangaung United 3-1.
In the finals Bizana Pondo Chiefs FC won the match 5-4 through penalty shootout after having drawn 1-1 with Pretoria Callies.

Their victory became a sensation in the Mpondo Kingdom and the entire Eastern Cape province. Nkosi Jongilanga Sigcau who is the Chairperson of the Alfred Nzo House of Traditional Leaders also expressed his pride in the victory of the club that came from this region. Mr Mtangayi from SAFA informed that there was a need for a stadium to be built in the Mpondo Kingdom. It looks like Mpondoland is ready and there is no better time than now to have this stadium built, the first of its kind in the Kingdom which will also bolster economic spin offs for this region whilst boosting sports tourism.
